"Company Car"

Well, this is as close as we're likely to get to having a company car. The above image of a "skeleton" logging car lettered "KL&L Co." surfaced at the 1999 Gaithersburg Railroadiana Show. In reality the initials probably stand for "Klickitat Logging & Lumber Co.," a logging railroad that operated in the state of Washington through the first half of the twentieth century. The photo seems to be a "builder's photo," as evidenced by the small area at the right where the backdrop did not extend far enough to hide a picket fence. A builder's photo was an official photograph usually taken by the manufacturing company to document a finished product. Such photo's are very collectible, especially those taken of newly manufactured locomotives.

Some specifications of the above car: It was manufactured by the Magor Car Corporation with offices in New York City and manufacturing facilities in Passaic, New Jersey. The car had a capacity of 70,000 pounds, was 40 feet long, 10 feet, 2 inches wide, and used arch bar trucks. Disposition is unknown.

A special thanks to Lenny Gordy for the photos and car information.
